Facilities Management Supervisor Level 3

Facilities Management encompasses multi-disciplinary activities within the built environment and the management of their impact upon people and the workplace. Effective Facilities Management, combining resources and activities, is vital to the success of any organisation. At a corporate level, it contributes to the delivery of strategic and operational objectives. On a day-to-day level, effective Facilities Management provides a safe and efficient working environment, which is essential to the performance of any business. Within this fast growing professional discipline, facilities managers have extensive responsibilities for providing, maintaining and developing myriad services. These range from property strategy, space management and communications infrastructure to building maintenance, administration and contract management.

About this standard

Delivery of the Training: – 

Knowledge-based off the job training will take place once a month along with portfolio building days each month. The Apprentices allocated Training Advisor will issue monthly action plans and complete workplace visits in addition to the off the job training and portfolio building days.

  • 11 Bespoke Training Sessions – Embedding knowledge to prepare Apprentices for the Written Test and Competency Based Interview.
  • Maths and English Level 2
  • Completion of Employer Rights and Responsibilities

The Role: – 

This Apprenticeship prepares an individual for managing a facilities management service, or a group of services, which can be labelled as ‘hard’ (estate/building management) or soft (catering/ cleaning/ administration/ security). All apprentices will be required to supervise others; to understand the contractual requirements and service delivery targets between their employing organisation and the client/customer in order to achieve service targets. The apprentice will have to provide customer service skills and be proactive in finding solutions to problems.

The entry requirements for this Apprenticeship will be decided by each employer, but may typically be five GCSEs at Grade C or higher and an Intermediate Level Apprenticeship.

The duration of this Apprenticeship is typically 18 months

Component 1: A project with project report

The project report must include at least:

  • an executive summary (or abstract)
  • an introduction
  • the scope of the project (including key performance indicators, aims and objectives)
  • a project plan
  • research outcomes
  • data analysis outcomes
  • project outcomes
  • discussion of findings
  • recommendations and conclusions
  • references
  • appendix containing mapping of KSBs to the report

The project report must have a word count of 2500 words. A tolerance of 10% above or below the word count is allowed at the apprentice’s discretion. Appendices, references and diagrams are not included in this total. The apprentice must produce and include a mapping in an appendix, showing how the output evidences the KSBs mapped to this assessment method.

Component 2: Presentation with questions

The presentation with questions must be structured to give the apprentice the opportunity to demonstrate the KSBs mapped to this assessment method to the highest available grade.

The apprentice must prepare and deliver a presentation to an independent assessor. After the presentation, the independent assessor must ask the apprentice questions about their project, project report and presentation.

The presentation should cover:

  • an overview of the project
  • the project scope (including key performance indicators)
  • summary of actions undertaken by the apprentice
  • project outcomes and how these were achieved

The presentation with questions must last 45 minutes. This will typically include a presentation of 20 minutes and questioning lasting 25 minutes. The independent assessor must use the full time available for questioning. The independent assessor can increase the time of the presentation and questioning by up to 10%. This time is to allow the apprentice to complete their last point or respond to a question if necessary.

20% off the job training is a mandatory requirement when completing any Apprenticeship Standard.
