In 2010 Prostart chose to support the work of the work of the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance Appeal.
Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance (DLRAA), based at East Midlands Airport is a relatively new air ambulance service, taking over from County Air Ambulance on 1 April 2008. This service has moved the emphasis away from simply transporting casualties to hospital, to getting senior doctors and consultants to the scene of incidents as quickly as possible. DLRAA conveys its patients to specialist hospitals that can help specific injuries, not just the nearest hospital.
DLRAA provides life saving treatment and medication on site and en-route to hospital. This is an invaluable service in cases where land ambulances are unable to access the scene or where transfer by land ambulance would be too slow or risk further injury to the patient. DLRAA's primary response area is the 2,100 square miles of Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland and will serve in excess of 1.4 million people.
In 2009, DLRAA undertook 943 missions, sometimes attending upto 4 or 5 incidents in one day. The missions vary but examples from 2009 include: 9% of missions being equestrian related, 40% being road traffic collisions involving cars, 10% being sporting accidents and 9% involving road traffic collisions with motor bikes etc.
Given that the charity receives no Government or Lottery funding, they rely entirely on public donations to help them raise the £1.5 million needed every year to maintain the life saving operation. Every penny donated really does make a difference.
A range of prizes are presented to the winners.
