Assessor

 

This is a person who is assigned personally to you if you are on an Apprenticeship programme.  They will come out once a month to your place of work and guide you through your qualification step by step.  They will want to observe you working in a natural way.  They will help you collect evidence for your portfolio and assess your competence. Your assessor will also carry out progress reviews with you and your employer every 12 weeks.

Cross Referencing

Reference sheets outline the evidence you need to collect.  Cross referencing is a way of indexing the evidence in your folder, and this also enables you to see how far you are from completing your course.

This is where someone from an awarding body (i.e. City & Guilds) visits Prostart and checks through your folder.  If they think it is okay your folder, will be passed and we can then send for your certificate.

Copies of work /documents you have done on computers
Observations your Assessor has carried out on you
Copies of messages you have taken
Written statements /  testimonies about jobs you have dealt with
Photographs of you carrying out duties
The type of evidence you collect will depend on the qualification you are doing.  This evidence is then Cross Referenced onto reference sheets.

Functional Skills

 

These are the skills we all need and use in everyday life.  They are part of your training and aim to help you perform better at everyday tasks.  If you are on an Apprenticeship programme you will be doing the following Functional Skills alongside your qualification:

  • Application of Number
  • Communication
  • Information Technology

Like the qualifications functional skills are at different levels.  The levels you do depend on the qualification you are doing.  In areas 1-3 there are tests involved don't worry, your Assessor will guide you all the way.  You may be exempt from doing some of the tests.  Talk to your Assessor they will be able to tell you more about this.

Internal Verification

 

This is when your folder is checked by an Internal Verifier.  These are done at the beginning, middle and end of each qualification.  The one that is done at the end is called the final IV.  This is done before the External Verifier comes in to spot check some of the learners files (which could be yours).

On the E2E/Foundation Learning programme there are two Key Workers who will guide you through your programme. They are responsible for delivering all training sessions, carrying out reviews and providing advice guidance and support to help you progress to the next step.

Progress Reviews

 

If you are on an Apprenticeship programme your assessor will carry out progress reviews with you and your supervisor.  You will be able to see how you are getting on with your qualification and what units are almost complete.

If you are on the Foundation Learning Programme your a review will be carried out on a monthly basis with your Key Worker and Personal Advisor (PA). These reviews monitor your progress and general well being while on the programme

This is a folder of work which you collect for your qualification.  The work you collect is called evidence. This could be paperbased or electronic

These are carried out by the Equal Opportunities Officer at Prostart.  They will check that you are happy with your qualification and the way your training is being delivered.

The YPLA was launched in April 2010 with the mission of championing education and training for young people in England.
