An apprenticeship can last 12-15 months and an Advanced Apprenticeship 18-24 months. The length of stay is agreed at the beginning of the programme and is based on each individual; however the minimum duration of an Apprenticeship as specified by the Government is 12 months.

Will I be able to choose the Apprentice?

Prostart carry out thorough interviews and initial assessment with all potential candidates. Our Recruitment Team will send you the CV's of suitable applicants so that you can arrange/ carry out interviews. You will select the most suitable candidate to appoint. If none of the candidates are suitable we will continue to look for applicants for the vacancy. There is no charge for this service.

If we already employ someone aged 16-18 can we start them on an Apprenticeship?

Yes if they meet eligibility/ minimum requirements; contact our Recruitment Team on 0844 815 0804 who will carry out a short telephone interview to confirm eligibility and arrange an appointment to start.

How much work will be involved?

At the beginning of the programme the employer/ supervisor needs to be available to sign some paperwork including the Apprenticeship Agreement and Health and Safety Vetting.

The employer/ supervisor is expected to given a thorough induction to the company and support the learner in the early stages of employment including identifying any training needs like any other new member of staff. The employer/ supervisor needs to be available every 12 weeks to carry out a progress review with the learner and Assessor. If a learner is on E-NVQ their progress can be tracked electronically through a web based system (see below for more information about this.)

Who delivers the training? Will we be required to deliver training?

In the early stages of employment the employer/ supervisor maybe required to deliver some training, particularly in systems specific to the company requirements.

The learner's assessor will then identify any training needs on the first assessment visit when the units for the qualification are selected and then on an ongoing basis through the qualification delivery.

The assessors will deliver the majority of training during the assessment visits. In some cases learners may be required to work in other departments/ areas of the business to learn new skills.

If required off the job training can be arranged in a number of areas including English, Maths and ICT. Learners may be required to attend Prostart for Functional Skill exams but you will be notified of these in advance.
